阪南大学 国際学部 国際コミュニケーション学科の学生が、2026年5月1日から3日にかけて、ウズベキスタン・タシケントで開催された Tashkent International Model United Nations Conference（TIMUN 2026） に参加しました。
TIMUNは、世界各国の若者が集まり、国連会議をモデルにして国際問題について話し合う国際的な模擬国連大会です。2026年の大会には、ウズベキスタン国内外から400名を超える若者が参加しました。
参加者は、それぞれが国の代表となり、英語で意見を述べたり、他国の代表と交渉したりしながら、国際社会が直面する課題について解決策を考えました。
今回の参加は、学生たちにとって、教室で学んだ英語や国際理解を実際の国際舞台で活かす貴重な機会となりました。

開催地となったタシケントは、中央アジアの歴史と文化が息づく都市です。日本とは異なる文化、言語、街並み、生活習慣に触れることで、学生たちは海外で学ぶことの面白さと、異文化を理解する大切さを実感しました。
国際会議の場では、英語を話す力だけでなく、相手の意見を聞く力、自分の考えをわかりやすく伝える力、そして異なる立場の人と協力する力が求められます。学生たちは、世界中から集まった若者と交流しながら、「国際問題」は遠い世界の出来事ではなく、自分たちにも関係のある身近なテーマであることを学びました。

TIMUN 2026は、Westminster International University in Tashkent（WIUT）が主催し、国連ウズベキスタン事務所、El-Yurt Umidi Foundation、ウズベキスタン共和国青年問題庁、Kapitalbankの協賛のもとで実施されました。
本大会は “MUN For You(th)!” をスローガンに掲げ、国際問題の解決に向けた若者の主体的な参加とリーダーシップの重要性を示す場となりました。
会議では、メンタルヘルスと平和・安全保障、AIを活用したサイバー犯罪対策、デジタル・ディバイド、女性や脆弱な立場にある人々への支援、都市化と公衆衛生、環境の持続可能性、安全な飲料水の供給、文化遺産の保護など、幅広い国際課題が取り上げられました。

阪南大学の学生は、それぞれ異なる国の代表として、担当する委員会で国際課題に関する討議に臨みました。

林カノンさんは、ベルギー代表として 国連総会（UNGA） に参加しました。
UNGAは、すべての国連加盟国が参加し、世界のさまざまな課題について話し合う、国連の中心的な会議の一つです。各国の代表は、自国の立場を踏まえながら意見を述べ、他国と協力してよりよい解決策を探ります。
林さんは、ベルギー代表として他国の代表と意見を交わしながら、国際的な課題に対する提案づくりに取り組みました。英語で自分の考えを伝え、異なる意見を持つ参加者と協働する経験を通して、国際舞台で必要とされる発信力と対話力を高めました。

西山実日子さんは、モロッコ代表として UNESCO（国連教育科学文化機関） に参加しました。
UNESCOは、教育、科学、文化、コミュニケーションを通じて、平和な社会をつくることを目指す国際機関です。文化遺産の保護、教育の発展、知識やイノベーションの活用など、未来の社会づくりに関わるテーマを扱います。
西山さんは、モロッコ代表として、文化や教育に関する国際課題について議論しました。世界のさまざまな地域の考え方に触れながら、文化を守ること、学びの機会を広げること、多様な人々が共に生きる社会について考える貴重な機会となりました。

今川敬太さんは、ドイツ代表として 人口開発委員会（UNCPD） に参加しました。
UNCPDは、人口問題と持続可能な開発の関係について考える委員会です。人口の増加や減少、都市化、健康、生活環境など、社会の未来に深く関わるテーマについて議論します。
今川さんは、ドイツ代表として、人口動態や都市化、健康と開発の関係について考え、他国の代表と意見を交わしました。複雑な国際課題を一つの視点だけでなく、さまざまな角度から考える経験を通して、世界を見る視野を広げました。

TIMUNへの参加を通して、学生たちは多くの力を身につけました。
まず、英語で発信する力です。国際会議では、自分の意見を英語でわかりやすく伝えることが求められます。学生たちは、事前に担当国の立場を調べ、根拠をもって発言する力を磨きました。
次に、相手の意見を聞き、交渉する力です。国際問題には、一つの正解だけがあるわけではありません。異なる立場の人々と話し合い、互いの考えを理解しながら、合意を目指す姿勢が大切です。
さらに、多様な視点から考える力も育まれました。国や文化が違えば、同じ問題に対する考え方も異なります。学生たちは、世界の若者との対話を通して、物事をさまざまな角度から見ることの大切さを学びました。
そして何より、TIMUNは学生たちに、世界と自分がつながっていることを実感する機会を与えてくれました。

TIMUN 2026への参加に際して、WIUTの寮に滞在させていただきました。寮には、WIUTの学生をはじめ、ウズベキスタン国内の遠方や、カザフスタン、キルギス、タジキスタンなどの近隣諸国、さらにイギリスやインドなどから来た学生が滞在しました。参加学生は、ゲームやパーティー、ピクニックなどを通して彼らと交流を深めることができました。様々なルーツを持つ学生が日々仲良くなり、最終日に別れを惜しむ姿が印象的でした。

今回のTIMUN 2026への参加は、学生たちにとって、海外で学び、国際舞台で挑戦する大きな一歩となりました。
ウズベキスタンという異文化の地で、世界の若者と出会い、英語で議論し、国際課題について考えた3日間は、今後の大学生活や将来の進路にもつながる貴重な経験となりました。阪南大学 国際学部 国際コミュニケーション学科では、これからも学生が世界に目を向け、異文化を理解し、自分の言葉で発信できる力を育む学びを大切にしていきます。

This year’s TIMUN was a valuable and rewarding experience for the International Communication students who participated. By traveling to Uzbekistan and joining an international Model United Nations conference, the students had the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom and experience discussion on the international stage.
The students worked hard to research their assigned countries and meeting rooms, and they actively participated in discussions on important global issues. Through this experience, they developed their English communication skills, learned the importance of listening to different perspectives, and gained confidence in working with students from other countries.

Participation in events like TIMUN helps students grow as global citizens and prepares them for future opportunities. Thank you to everyone who supported this program and to the students for their hard work and positive attitude.

TIMUN 2026 was truly an amazing and productive experience, far beyond my imagination. First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who kindly supported us and made this opportunity possible. Thank you very much.
The students from the Department of International Communication showed remarkable growth through their participation in TIMUN 2026 and through their interactions with students from all over the world. Since many of the participants at TIMUN 2026 had strong backgrounds in English education and a very high level of English proficiency, our students were understandably quite nervous on the first day. However, the kindness and support of the new friends they made helped them relax, and they gradually began to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, which changed their attitude toward the event. From my perspective, they engaged seriously in the discussions and made every effort to understand the topics, the content of the debates, and the resolutions being discussed. On the final day, I saw the Japanese students raise their hands and express their opinions with confidence. It was truly impressive. Aside from the event itself, the students were always surrounded by new friends and clearly enjoyed communicating with them.
No matter how much one learns, it is a great loss if there is no opportunity to put that learning into practice. I am convinced that TIMUN 2026 provided an invaluable opportunity for students in the Department of International Communication to fully demonstrate the results of their studies while also gaining even more through the experience. It also reminded me of the significance of what students can learn in the Department of International Communication, as well as the wonderful experience of talking, laughing, and connecting with people across national boundaries. I sincerely hope that we will continue to have opportunities like this, through which we can witness the growth of our students. Thank you again very much.
