日本英語模擬国連（JEMUN）とは

　JEMUNは日本で開催される最も革新的な模擬国連大会です。一般的な模擬国連とは違い、各国の大使としてだけでなく、ジャーナリスト（フォト・ジャーナリスト・SNSなど）として参加することができ、さらには高校生と大学生が同時に参加して、またこのような機会を通じて、世界という社会の一員として、グローバルに考えられる人材を育成することを目指しています。

今年度は、24の大学から266人、11の高校から80人が参加し、阪南大学の国際コミュニケーション学部から3名（3回生2名、4回生1名）、国際観光学部から4名 (3回生4名) 参加しました。

本件の内容

模擬国連は学生による国連会議のシミュレーションで、世界が直面する様々な課題を深く理解することを目指します。JEMUNでは、世界中から集まった学生が世界各国の代表者となり、英語を使用言語とし、SDGs（国連が取り上げる課題）に関して各国の立場を取りつつ協議を進めます。このような活動を通して、英語によるコミュニケーション能力の向上、議論のために深く調査するリサーチ能力の向上と国際事情の理解促進、議論を通して決議案を作り上げていくリーダーシップや協働力の養成、さらに、建設的な意味での分析批判能力の向上が期待されます。

 This year’s JEMUN was a rewarding experience for the Hannan University JEMUN Team, and all participants at this annual event. The theme this year was challenging, but the students did their best to research and prepare for their meeting room assignments so that they could have fruitful discussions and arrive at resolutions to the pressing global problems discussed at JEMUN 2023. In addition to the Model United Nations activities, JEMUN had a Career Fair so that students could meet representatives from various companies. Students were able to see more clearly how participation in events like JEMUN can help them prepare for careers in a number of fields. We all look forward to having many more opportunities to learn, grow and make connections. Thank you to all the people who supported us and to the students for their efforts to do their best.

 JEMUN 2023 took place over three days, from Saturday, July 15 to Monday, July 17 at the Higashi Osaka campus of Kindai University. Even though the weather is always hot and humid at this time of year, sapping our energy, the Hannan University JEMUN Team worked hard and took part actively in the event. As the contents and procedures at Model United Nations events are different from what students experience in their regular university classes, participating in JEMUN allows students to discover new ways of learning and builds their confidence. The students began their preparations for JEMUN at the start of this semester and spent many hours researching and preparing their topics. The themes seemed more difficult this year, but the Hannan University JEMUN Team members did not let that put them off and were able to submit well-researched position papers. English language proficiency levels varied widely at JEMUN 2023. Some students were native speakers of English, others had spent time overseas studying English, and many were non-language majors. This can make joining events like JEMUN even more challenging for students. Despite these challenges, all the students on the Hannan University JEMUN Team remained patient and made meaningful contributions to JEMUN 2023. Finally, I am grateful to all those at Hannan University who supported us and made participation in JEMUN 2023 such a success.
